Description
Dog Breed: Tibetan Spaniel (long coat). Adoption Fee: $495 + tax. This little hunk is Lukas (Lukie), he is approximately 8.5 years and about 24 lbs, (but he needs to lose weight and is on a restricted diet right now to help with that). Lukie is a silly little bug, and his favorite spots are sleeping sprawled out on the bed, and relaxing in a dog bed. Lukey is used to sleeping on the bed with his human so we would like his adoptive home to allow that. He gets silly little bursts and wants to play with his rope toy. He does "smile", just when he gets excited. He gets excited when the leash comes out and will carry part of the leash in his mouth as if to say, "Let's go!" Lukie would enjoy walks, dog park (a safe one for little dogs) and he also LOVES CAR RIDES !!! He is always ready for the next adventure! Lukie is looking for a calm home with a human(s) who can be around most of the time. Adult only or very gentle older kids would be best. The less amount of chaos the best for Lukie, then he can really settle in and relax. Lukie does well with dogs & likes to play, but not in super social settings. Dogs his size and age would be best. He could be a solo dog if his human is around often. He does love to romp around a fenced in yard, but soon wants to come back inside and be with you. Interested in fostering or adopting? Breed overview
Tibetan Spaniel
A.K.A.: Tibbie, Tibetan Lion Dog, Phalène Tibetain, Kleine Tibetaanse Hond, Zwergspaniel Tibetain, Tibetansk Spaniel
Overview:
The Tibetan Spaniel is a charming and ancient breed, originating in the mountainous regions of Tibet where they were revered companions in monasteries. Despite their name, they are not true spaniels but rather a "temple dog" or "lion dog," sharing ancestry with breeds like the Pekingese and Lhasa Apso. Physically, they are small, well-proportioned dogs with a distinctive "lion-like" mane around their neck, a plumed tail carried over their back, and a double coat that comes in a variety of colors. Their expression is often described as alert and intelligent. Temperamentally, Tibbies are known for being playful, affectionate, and fiercely loyal to their families, though they can be reserved with strangers – excellent watchdogs despite their size. They adapt well to various living situations, making them suitable for apartment living as long as they receive regular walks and mental stimulation. Generally a healthy breed, they are prone to certain genetic conditions like patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and primary lens luxation (PLL), so reputable breeding is crucial. Their relatively low grooming needs and friendly nature make them wonderful companions for many households.
