Description
Dog Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $350.00. Brando is named after an iconic heartthrob! He is young and beautiful, but he is also full of energy! When he arrived from the shelter, he was initially timid and submissive, but his natural affection towards people soon became evident. He was cool right away with the 2 cats in his foster home and friendly with the dogs smaller than him, but it took slow, leashed introductions to the larger dogs. It appears as if he may not have had much dog experience and was uncertain, even at times fearful and defensive or wanting to hide from them. His foster home is a very helpful learning experience for him and Brando is interacting much better with the big dog after having been given space and time to get to know him. Brando is now enjoying a playmate, Pooh (who is also on our website). His leash walking skills honestly aren't there yet and he's not a fan of the crate. He will cower down at loud noises and does not yet know any commands. However, Brando's housetraining has come along pretty well, but there is a dog door with easy access to a fenced yard in his foster home. This baby is a precious diamond in the rough. He has some stuff to learn, but his love for and focus on his human will pave the way for him to be a priceless member of the family! Brando Is heartworm positive and will be ready for his treatment very soon.

Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
