Description
Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Meet Scarlett! Scarlett is a beautiful 50 lb 1-year-old black Lab mix with a calm, loving personality and a whole lot of charm. She’s been doing really well in her foster home and has proven to be a pretty chill girl indoors—especially after getting her daily exercise. She currently enjoys long walks (about 6 miles a day!), which helps her stay relaxed, happy, and well-mannered inside the house. At home, Scarlett settles in easily and is a dream overnight. She sleeps soundly in her own bed next to her people all night without any issues. While she’s still learning that crates can be a positive place, her foster family is gently working on it using scatter feeding and low-pressure exposure, and she’s making steady progress at her own pace. Scarlett is alert and engaged with the world around her. She’ll sometimes bark when she notices dogs passing by or when out on walks, and she has a classic Lab-style prey drive—rabbits and the occasional squirrel are just very exciting! She’s already working on her leash manners and impulse control, and with continued consistency and training, she’ll keep improving. She would be happy as the only dog soaking up all the attention, or she could do well with another dog companion given proper introductions. Scarlett is a wonderful mix of active and easygoing, making her a great fit for someone who enjoys daily walks and wants a loyal, affectionate companion to relax with at the end of the day. If you’re looking for a sweet, steady, and loving girl to join your life, Scarlett may be your perfect match If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: .starfishanimalrescue/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
