Cookie #10 | 12 weeks | Aussie Mix with a big personality Cookie is an 12-week-old Aussie mix puppy with a fearless heart and an endless zest for life. Weighing about 10 pounds, this white-and-merle boy is playful, sweet, friendly, and already showing signs of being a confident little adventurer. He loves toys, enjoys car rides, and is always up for playtime or a cuddle when he finally slows down. Very little fazes him—if something doesn’t go quite right, he bounces back quickly and is ready to try again. As a young puppy, Cookie is starting from scratch with house training and basic manners. He is still learning to be comfortable in his crate and may whine or bark at first, especially when left alone, and he cannot hold his bladder for long yet. He has been left crated and alone for short periods (about 3–4 hours) and is making gradual progress. Like most puppies, he is working on play biting and learning to chew toys instead of hands, and food is a great motivator for him. Cookie does very well with other dogs and has had positive interactions with large dogs, including a Mastiff and a Great Dane. He would love a home with another playful dog to help burn off his energy. He is also doing well with cats—he wants to play and may chase a bit, but is learning boundaries as the cats become more comfortable. He has not yet met children, but he shows no preference for men or women and is generally very social. This high-energy pup will need an active home committed to exercise, training, and structure as he grows. With his intelligence, fearlessness, and enthusiasm, Cookie could be a great candidate for activities like agility in the future. Most of all, he needs a family ready for the joys and challenges of puppyhood—and who will enjoy watching this confident little guy grow into an amazing dog. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
