Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua. Neva is a young Chihuahua with a big heart and a sweet, silly personality. Still very puppy-like, she brings lots of smiles with her playful energy and affectionate nature. Neva is crate trained and currently working on potty training—she will use pee pads but may still have the occasional accident as she continues learning. She’s also learning her leash manners and improving each day. Neva adores snuggles, rope toys, and being around people. She forms strong bonds and prefers not to be separated from her humans from room to room, finding comfort in staying close to those she loves. Neva came to us as a stray from Waukegan Animal Control, and despite her rough start, she is incredibly sweet and loving. As we continue to get to know her, we believe she may do especially well in a home with another friendly dog to help boost her confidence and provide companionship. With patience, consistency, and plenty of love, Neva will blossom into a devoted and joyful little companion who’s happiest right by your side. Stop by our weekly adoption events on Saturdays from 12-4 pm at 372 Townline Road in Mundelein, IL 60060 to meet our adoptable animals in person. The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
