Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Airedale Terrier / Mixed. Bernard is a big, happy, exuberant puppy who approaches life at full speed and with his whole heart. He absolutely loves toys and would probably benefit from having a few extra mouths and feet so he could play with all of them at once. Tug toys are a favorite, shoes are frequently launched into the air (purely for sport), and while he hasn’t tried to destroy anything, his forever home should plan on a robust stick collection… and possibly a steady supply of dryer lint. Like many puppies, Bernard is still learning where his mouth belongs — which currently includes socks, feet, hands, shirt buttons, ears, and hair. He responds well to consistent corrections and is eager to learn, though he sometimes interprets mixed signals as an invitation to play. Ongoing training and structure will go a long way in helping him polish his puppy manners. Bernard is doing well with potty training and is great about going as soon as he gets outside, though he’s still working on getting it right every time. Puppy pads don’t make much sense to him yet, but he will let you know when it’s urgent — his loud, shrill bark is his way of saying, “I really need to GO!” He has an excellent appetite, loves treats, and powered through a peanut butter–kibble Kong in record time. Bernard has no hesitation about going outside, even in the rain, and the cold doesn’t bother him one bit. He enjoys exploring the yard, running zoomies, and taking in the world around him. He’s curious about cats and may try to chase, but responds appropriately to corrections. Bath time was a success (he may have even liked it!), and while he’d prefer not to go into his crate, a few bribes help and he settles down quickly after a short fuss. Bernard is a joyful, energetic puppy who will thrive in a home ready for normal puppy antics, continued training, and lots of play. With consistency, patience, and a sense of humor, he’s going to be an amazing companion. Bernard was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. He will be available to meet starting 1/31! Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. Breed overview
Overview:
The Lab'Aire is an engaging hybrid breed, a delightful cross between the intelligent Airedale Terrier and the amiable Labrador Retriever. Originating from designer breed initiatives aimed at combining desirable traits, Lab'Aires typically inherit a medium to large build, boasting a sturdy frame with a coat that can vary in texture and color, often appearing in shades of black, brown, or tan, sometimes with the distinctive Airedale markings. Their temperament is generally a winning blend of the Labrador's friendliness and the Airedale's spirited nature, making them intelligent, loyal, and often quite playful companions. While they thrive in active family environments, their energy levels mean they are less suited for small apartment living without significant outdoor access and regular exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of potential health considerations common to their parent breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. With proper training and socialization, the Lab'Aire can be a wonderfully devoted and active member of a loving home.
