Description
Dog Breed: Bulldog / Mixed. Meet Mr. Potato —a thoughtful little gentleman with big feelings, impeccable manners, and a very serious snuggle tooth. Mr. Potato is the kind of dog who will politely ignore your dinner… while laying down nearby and gazing into your soul with legendary puppy-dog eyes. He’s affectionate to his core and would happily accept constant pets, thank you very much. If you stop? Expect a paw tap or a mean side-eye as a gentle reminder to continue. He’s a curious, observant guy who enjoys the finer things in life—like watching the AKC Dog Show, Dog TV, birds, and even tennis. Outside, he may ask to go potty… and then promptly just lie down in the grass to vibe. Shade is his preference (yes, even at night), and he’s totally unbothered by cold weather—20–30° lounging is acceptable to him. Mr. Potato is still learning the ropes and doing great. He’s picking up “sit”, learning his name, walks nicely on leash without pulling, and takes treats exceptionally gently (he’s very aware of his mouth). He responds well to “aht aht,” “ow,” and “ouch,” and he’s not food-territorial at all. He’s also chill with having his toe beans touched and doesn’t mind nail trims with clippers. His personality quirks are where he really shines: Blueberries? Suspicious. Possibly a bug. Jury’s still out. Peanut butter? Completely unimpressed. Turkey pepperoni, bacon, cheese, and treats? Absolutely yes. Bread or tortillas = elite pill-hiding technology (he will not be fooled otherwise). Will fight sleep like a toddler if fun is happening, then quietly retreat to nap once he loses the battle. Will stop mid-zoomie to poop rather than interrupt play to ask to go out—efficiency matters. Loves chewing (Kongs, tennis balls, rope toys, buffalo horn) in a soothing, methodical way and will carefully take apart flimsy toys to see what’s inside. Can catch a ball mid-air and is not easily tricked by fake throws. He likes being brushed, tolerates foam shampoo, wears clothes like a champ, enjoys car rides, and happily goes into his crate—especially if treats are involved. He’s working on self-soothing and crate time to help with mild separation anxiety and is making nice progress. Socially, Mr. Potato is a star. He’s done well meeting other dogs, ignores most fence barking, and is gentle with kids when reminded to sit and be calm. He has good body awareness, is careful around obstacles (even the Christmas tree), and walks beautifully at your side—making him a fantastic candidate for an emotional support–type companion. If you’re looking for a quirky, affectionate, observant little soul who wants to be near you always (preferably on you, even if awkwardly), Mr. Potato is ready to steal your heart—and maybe your shoes. He’s beauty, he’s grace, he’s Mr. Potato. With a few snaggle teeth and a heart of gold, this guy immediately spoke to our hearts with his short, stocky frame and loving temperament. All he wants is to cuddle, play and get treats. We truly think anyone could easily fall in love with Mr. Potato, and he’s ready to prove his charm and sweetness! Mr. Potato was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. He is available to meet starting 1/31! Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.
