Description

Dog Breed: Cairn Terrier (long coat). Adoption Fee: $240. ADOPT DON'T SHOP Captain Jack is a fun little Cairn Terrier mix that followed a lady around town one day when he realized he was lost. He ended up with the High Plateau Humane Society when his owner didn't show to claim him, and we had him neutered, microchipped and brought up to date on shots as well as fixed his "cherry eye" tear duct. He is all ship-shape and Bristol fashion now and is ready for his new home. Captain Jack gets along great with other dogs and cats. He is pretty well house trained, but sometimes slips up and marks the wall when a new dog makes an appearance. He loves to be in your lap or at your side, so he is a perfect dog to go traveling with. He also walks well on lead and has no problem keeping up on even long walks. If you are interested in meeting Jack, please call Jennifer at 530-708-2377 or email her at HPHSYmail. Jack's adoption fee is $240. Cairn Terrier

A.K.A.: Short-haired Skye Terrier, Little Skye, Prick-Eared Skye Terrier, Dwarf Skye, Cairn, Cairns, Cairns Terrier
Overview:

The Cairn Terrier, originating from the Scottish Highlands, is a small yet sturdy and spirited dog, famously recognized for its role as "Toto" in The Wizard of Oz. Physically, they boast a shaggy, weatherproof double coat, typically in colors like cream, wheaten, red, sandy, brindle, or gray, along with distinctive prick ears and a short, perky tail. Known for their confident, curious, and intelligent temperament, Cairns are lively companions who thrive on interaction and mental stimulation. They are generally good with children and can adapt well to apartment living provided they receive adequate daily exercise and playtime, as their inquisitive nature requires engagement. While typically a robust breed, potential health concerns can include luxating patella, various eye conditions, and certain skin allergies, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
