Description
Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed. Baguette came to us as a devoted mama with a litter of puppies, all of whom have since found their homes. Now it’s Baguette’s turn to find a patient, understanding family who will let her move at her own pace. Baguette is a gentle soul who is blooming at her own pace. A sweet, shy girl, she is still learning that the world—and the people in it—can be a safe place. Since arriving at her foster home three weeks ago, Baguette has made quiet but beautiful progress. She has learned daily routine, accepts treats from your hand, and has recently begun welcoming chin scratches and even the occasional pet behind the ears. While she isn't ready for intense affection just yet, Baguette, and her foster family, celebrate "small wins" every day. She thrives in a calm, low-traffic environment where her humans move slowly and allow her to open up on her own terms. She is currently being fostered with two teenagers who respect her boundaries, and she will flourish with adopters who understand that trust cannot be rushed. Where Baguette truly shines is in the company of other dogs. She is currently fostered with both males and females and absolutely loves to play. Having a confident, friendly, resident dog is key. She relies on her canine friends to show her the ropes and give her the "bravery" she needs to navigate the world. Baguette is a smart girl with a classic "Heeler mind" that loves to stay busy. She has learned to use the dog door and adores the freedom of the outdoors, whether she’s basking in the sun or frolicking in the snow. While she is still learning the difference between her toys and a stray shoe or a remote control, she is easily redirected with a chew toy. She enjoys puzzle toys and a game of fetch with her fur friends by her side. Baguette is looking for a patient family willing to take "baby steps" with her. If you have a playful dog and a heart full of patience, Baguette has the potential to blossom into a loyal and gentle companion. This pup was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
