Foxi #1 | 1 year old Shepherd mix | Professional cuddle seeker with a gentle soul Foxi is a one-year-old Shepherd mix weighing about 35 pounds, with a striking black, brown, and white coat and a heart to match. She’s a sweet, affectionate girl who is still opening up and gaining confidence, showing more of her personality every day. Foxi has a nice balance of medium-to-high energy—she enjoys walks, playtime, and toys, but she’s also very happy lounging on the couch, snuggling close, and resting her head on you when it’s time to relax. Foxi is house trained and has done very well in her foster home, though like any dog, accidents can happen when transitioning to a new environment. She doesn’t currently use a specific signal to ask to go outside, but with a human who pays attention to her body language, she does great. She walks beautifully on leash in a harness without pulling and truly enjoys her walks. She has also been crated and left completely alone for short periods (up to two hours) and handled it very well, going into her crate easily with a treat. Foxi has had positive interactions with dogs of all sizes and does well respecting boundaries such as gates and leaving human food alone. She hasn’t met cats or children yet. She seems to slightly prefer women but is comfortable, affectionate, and confident around men as well. Foxi is motivated by food and love, adores toys—especially squeaky ones—and is learning basic commands like “sit,” though she’s still a work in progress. Like many young dogs, Foxi is still figuring out personal space. She shows affection enthusiastically with kisses, face licking, and the occasional gentle nibble for attention, but she continues to improve with structure and consistency. Her foster describes her as calm, playful, sweet, friendly, submissive, and sometimes a bit nervous—an easygoing girl who thrives with reassurance. Foxi’s ideal home is with someone who can be present, offer affection, and enjoy light to moderate exercise such as walks, with the option for longer hikes or more activity if desired. Whether as an only pet or with other animals, Foxi is ready to be a devoted companion and loyal snuggle partner. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
