Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: Boerne, TX DOB: 08/27/2022 Matilda is a black Great Dane who has already lived several lifetimes in just a few short months. She came into rescue about four months ago underweight, covered in ticks, heavily pregnant, and with an old injury to her left hip. She was quickly placed with a foster family, where she gave birth to six beautiful puppies and spent the next three months devoted to raising them. With her babies now off to their forever homes, Matilda is finally getting the chance to enjoy being the center of attention herself. She loves every person she meets and is especially gentle and patient with kids, happily soaking up their attention. Matilda is very people-oriented and stays close, often leaning in or quietly following from room to room. She’s equally friendly with dogs of all sizes and enjoys playing chase, tug, and a good round of wrestling with her foster siblings. There’s no edge to her play—she’s just happy to be included. Matilda has a playful, goofy side that keeps things interesting. She enjoys “redecorating” by picking up items she likes and relocating them, whether that’s shoes, toys, or the occasional Christmas decoration. Thankfully, she usually just moves things rather than destroying them, though a stuffed toy may lose its filling from time to time. When playtime is over, she’s perfectly content chewing on a bone or stretching out for a nap on the couch or bed, complete with the cutest little grunts as she settles in. She walks nicely on a leash, enjoys car rides, and does fine in a crate. Matilda does have an old injury to her left hip, likely from being hit by a car many months ago, and she is scheduled for corrective surgery to prevent future issues. Right now, it doesn’t slow her down at all—she runs and plays without limping or showing signs of discomfort. Matilda is a sweet, social, easygoing dog who has given so much and is ready to receive that same care in return. She would thrive in a home that wants an affectionate, playful companion who enjoys both activity and downtime. After everything she’s been through, Matilda is ready for a stable, loving home where she can simply be cherished. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
