Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Tempo is a 2-year-old Husky mix and a sweet, sensitive guy. At 62 lbs, he has a gentle heart, a curious mind, and a playful streak that comes out once he feels safe. He can be shy at first and prefers slow, respectful introductions, but give him a little time and he’ll happily follow you around the house, lean in for pets, and invite you to play—sometimes by dramatically forcing his face into your arms or chasing his own tail for laughs. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and generally well-behaved, though he can get into mischief like exploring the trash if left alone too long. Tempo has some mild separation anxiety and benefits from being crated when left alone. His favorite toy is a tennis ball that he chews on and chases. Tempo loves being outside and going for walks, and he does best with regular exercise to keep his body and brain happy. He will require a fenced yard in his future home to give him the exercise he needs. Proper introductions will be needed when introducing Tempo to new friends because of his unknown history. He will pull toward dogs on walks like he wants to play, and he hasn’t met a cat directly, but he seems curious when seeing cats outside. Tempo hasn’t met kids yet, but he would likely do well with dog-savvy kids who let him warm up to them. Tempo is looking for a patient home that understands shy dogs, loves daily walks and outdoor time, and is ready to earn the trust—and loyalty—of a truly special sidekick! A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
