Our listed dogs ARE READY IMMEDIATELY; we only meet with families WHO ARE READY TO ADOPT! IF YOU APPLY and if WE APPROVE YOU it means we are assuming when you meet any of our dogs and fall in love you're ready to ADOPT AND HIM OR HER HOME! Meet Echo! Echo is a one-year-old, female, mini purebred Australian Shepherd weighing 24 pounds—the perfect compact size with a big personality to match. Echo is friendly, loyal, funny, and delightfully quirky. She loves other dogs and matches their play style beautifully. While we’re unsure about cats, she’s young and adaptable, so a cat-savvy introduction may go just fine. She’s the kind of dog who loves both the outdoors and the indoors—happy to run and play, then settle in when the house settles. Indoors, her energy level is about a 6, and she knows how to chill when it’s time. Outside, she’ll happily play to the energy level of whatever dogs are around her. Echo is endlessly entertaining and very creative. She recently discovered herself in the mirror and immediately turned it into a game . Toys are her jam—rope toys, Kongs, stuffed toys, water bottles shoved into socks—if it exists, Echo will find a way to play with it and keep herself busy. She’s still learning leash skills but is a quick study—eager to please, treat-motivated and praise-motivated, making training a fun and rewarding experience. Echo would do best with a dog companion, ideally a male dog her size or larger with a similar energy level. She is truly a pet-quality Aussie, not a high-drive farm or ranch dog—perfect for suburban life (and much happier that way!). Homes with children are considered on a case-by-case basis, with preference for families experienced with Australian Shepherds and kids typically 12 years or older. If you’re interested in adopting Echo, please complete the adoption application on our website, then TEXT Kevin at 469-623-3999 so he can review your application and follow up with you! Thank you for helping Echo find her forever home .dashdog General Info - PLEASE READ! *Our $450 adoption fee is based on the cost of rescuing, transporting and vetting each dog; we do not try to compete on prices with municipal shelters whose funds are paid by the city. Overview:
The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
