Description
Dog Breed: Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier / Mixed (long coat). Foster or forever home wanted: meet Dutchess! Dutchess is a young Wheaten terrier mix, around a year old, with the sweetest soul and so much ahead of her. When she was rescued, she was severely matted and dirty, making it clear life had not been very kind to her. But those days are behind her, and as we work through her coat care, we already know this girl is going to be even more stunning than she is now. Dutchess is still very new to our volunteers, so we are just getting to know her. So far, she has shown us that she is sweet, calm, and affectionate. We are still learning more about how she does with other dogs, but we do know she was kenneled with puppies at the shelter without issue and has been enjoying walks alongside our other dogs with no problems. As always, proper introductions are best when meeting new dogs. Dutchess is ready for a home where she can be loved, spoiled, and treated like the beautiful girl she is. If you are interested in meeting Dutchess, please fill out an application at .labradorsandfriends. Dutchess is located in Southern California.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
