Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (long coat). The application is the first step in the adoption process, so if you are interested in adopting please fill out the online adoption application first by visiting our website at .dachshundpaws Izzi is a 1-year-old Cream, long hair, Mini Dachshund. Izzi is a soft-hearted little girl with a gentle spirit. She’s very shy and timid when first meeting new people or situations, but once she feels comfortable, her playful and affectionate personality comes out. Izzi would do best in a quiet, understanding home and would greatly benefit from having a confident canine companion to help guide her and build her confidence. She loves to play and takes comfort in following another dog’s lead. She’s crate trained and dog door trained, and does well with an established routine. Izzi is not suited for homes with cats or young children. With patience, love, and a calm environment, Izzi will thrive and become a devoted, loving companion. She’s ready to find her forever home where she can feel safe, supported, and cherished. Izzi’s adoption fee: $650 We do not have a kennel or facility to visit, all dogs are kept in foster homes until their forever homes are found. Adoption Process: Once an approved application is on file, we will then set up a home visit. At that time we will bring the dog to the home in which you will all be sharing. We ask the entire family to be there that day. If we all agree on the placement, then the dog will stay with you that day. Please visit our website at .dachshundpaws

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
