Description
Dog Breed: Poodle (Miniature) (long coat). Adoption Fee: 350.. Meet BLUE, an adorable young poodle looking for a home. Blue is about 14 months old and fully grown. He's currently 9 pounds but should be around 11 pounds, which puts him in the Miniature Poodle range. Blue got his name because of his one blue eye. Little Blue is a playful boy who loves his toys. He's a bit of a velcro dog who loves to cuddle but he's also very active. He's housebroken and crate trained but is not fond of being crated, when you read his back story, you'll understand why. Blue was purchased as a puppy from a breeder by someone who wanted to become a backyard breeder. Apparently they changed their mind and gave him to someone else who didn't know how to housebreak him so they dumped him outside. The outcome was predictable, Blue was hit by a car. His owners took him to a vet where they discovered he had a broken pelvis. They elected NOT to treat him. Instead they put him in a crate for 3 months (hence his unhappiness in his crate). As a result, poor Blue did not heal properly. Unfortunately it's now too late to correct the issue, but fortunately he navigates life just fine, he runs around and plays and enjoys life. He could have arthritis issues someday but right now he's a perfectly happy little guy. Blue needs a home with no large dogs or small kids but would be perfectly fine with other small dogs. He's a poodle so he MUST be groomed regularly, his adopter should be prepared for that expense. If you'd like to meet Blue, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. Our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention.

Overview:
The Miniature Poodle, a charming and intelligent companion, originated in Germany as a water retriever before being refined in France. They are renowned for their elegant appearance, characterized by a distinctive curly coat (often requiring regular grooming to prevent matting), long muzzle, and expressive dark eyes. Standing typically between 10 to 15 inches tall and weighing 10 to 15 pounds, they are a compact yet sturdy breed. Temperamentally, Miniature Poodles are known for their high intelligence, making them highly trainable and eager to please. They are generally lively, affectionate, and can be quite playful, thriving on interaction with their families. Their adaptable nature makes them well-suited for apartment living, provided they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. They are often excellent with children and other pets when properly socialized. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of breed-specific concerns such as progressive retinal atrophy, luxating patella, and Addison's disease. With their captivating looks and bright minds, the Miniature Poodle makes a delightful and devoted family member.
