Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Terrier / Mixed (long coat). small sweetie seeking fresh start and love! ZELLY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Zelly Best Guess for Breed: Yorkie mix, probably with some other type of terrier Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of January 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 11.5 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here. Special adoption considerations: Zelly hasn't seen enough of the world yet and is shy. She needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes. Zelly is Looking For: Her forever home! Zelly is a very sweet, small young dog who hasn't seen much of the world and is looking forward to having her own humans for sniffy walks and romps and all the adventures she has not yet experienced! Right now she's a little shy and figuring out everything. She needs extra patient and loving adopters who will show her the world at her pace, and a confident resident dog who will show her how to dog. She has so much love and loyalty to give. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
