Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Tervuren / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Milo, the Belgian Tervuren mix. Milo came into the Shelter after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him after moving from a ranch to an apartment. Milo primarily lived outdoors in his previous home and has experience around horses, chickens, sheep and other dogs. It took a few days for Milo to warm up at the Shelter but he has been social and amiable after a decompression period. Milo has met a couple of dogs since his arrival at the Shelter and has done well. Another dog in the home may be a fit provided there is a meet and greet at the Shelter prior to adoption as well as a thoughtful introduction in the home. Although Milo has primarily been outdoors, we anticipate he will likely adapt (and ultimately enjoy) being a part of the family with some outdoor lounging on sunny days. Milo's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund- a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
