Description
Dog Breed: Poodle (unknown type) / Mixed (long coat). I'm adorable! Bandit was born around September 10, 2014 and weighs about 13 pounds. Bandit has a very social, sweet, personality and gets along with all the other dogs beautifully. We don't have any knowledge of his behavior with kids, but can't imagine a problem with respectful children. Bandit does enjoy car rides and is fine on leash. With most of these tiny dogs it is usually just easier to have potty pads handy to aid in house training. He does have some dry eye and will need lubricating eye drops. Update: Sadly, he was returned to us after a couple years of having a home because he was having a persistent ear infection and finally a vet sent the owner to a vet specialist who advised removing his entire inner ear and the owner could not afford this. OK.....well, seems a bit drastic so upon return we began daily hair removal (seriously, neither vet or groomer removed the fur stuck deep inside his ears???), cleaning and treating with a drying agent. It's been about a month and it looks so much better and he's no longer crying out if someone bumps into his ear. We are going to keep working at this and if there is someone out there willing to give this little cutie another try at a normal life and you are willing to continue care for his ear we'd love to hear from you! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $200.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
