Description
Dog Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound (short coat). Meet Russell! This handsome hound is ready to head to NJ, he just needs an adopter or foster to make the trip Meet Russell, a 2 year old treeing walker coonhound whose happy spirit is as big as his floppy ears. This outgoing fellow was picked up as a stray, and he’s been charming everyone ever since. In true hound fashion, Russell has a nose for adventure and a love of life’s little discoveries. Brisk walks are his favorite pastime, especially when there are new scents to follow and corners to explore. He’s a perfect walking partner, gliding beside you like a gentleman on his leash, and he never misses a chance to make a new friend. Russell’s playful side really shines when he has another canine buddy to romp and run with. He’s already mastered “sit,” and his eagerness to learn, especially when treats are involved, makes him a quick study for any new tricks you’d like to teach. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun loving companion to join your adventures (and your couch for snuggles afterward), Russell is ready to nose his way right into your heart. Russell will do well in a home with other canine companions, no cats since he likes to chase and play too rough. He currently is in a foster home with other dogs and is doing rather well. Russell is fixed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. His adoption fee will be $450. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home. If you are interested in learning more about me, and possibly making me part of your family, please go to wag-on-inn . Breed overview
Treeing Walker Coonhound
A.K.A.: Walker Coonhound, Treeing Walker, Walker, Walkers, Coonhound, Kentucky Coonhound, Tennessee Lead Coonhound
Overview:
The Treeing Walker Coonhound, a breed originating in the American South, was meticulously developed for its exceptional ability to track and "tree" raccoons and other small game. Physically, they are athletic and elegant, showcasing a smooth, short coat typically in tri-color (black, white, and tan) or bi-color patterns, along with a distinctive long tail and expressive, often pleading, brown eyes. Weighing between 50-70 pounds, their lean musculature allows for impressive endurance. Temperamentally, they are known for being intelligent, friendly, and affectionate, making them wonderful companions. However, their strong prey drive and high energy levels mean they thrive in active homes with securely fenced yards; apartment living is generally not recommended due to their need for extensive exercise and a tendency to bay. While generally a healthy breed, potential owners should be aware of possible issues like hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as bloat. Their loving nature makes them suitable for active families willing to provide ample physical and mental stimulation.
