Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees. Meet Marley — a gentle, lovable giant with a heart as big as his paws. At approximately 2–3 years old, this Great Pyrenees mix is the definition of calm, steady companionship. Marley has a naturally relaxed demeanor and spends much of his time peacefully resting, observing the world, or enjoying time near his people. True to his breed, Marley loves cool weather and has been thriving during the Texas icy days — great news for his future up North! He walks beautifully on leash, is potty trained, and is a joy to take out and about. Marley is deeply people-oriented and forms strong bonds with his person. He’s more motivated by affection and connection than by food or toys, and he truly shines in a calm, predictable environment where he can feel secure. While Marley does not enjoy being crated, we are working on it, but he does much better with room confinement or free roaming once settled. Many large guardian-type dogs prefer having space rather than feeling enclosed, and Marley is no exception. He is dog-friendly and would likely benefit from having canine companions to run and play with, even though he is currently an only dog in his foster home and is not currently living with cats or children. He is consistently gentle and friendly with everyone he meets on walks, kids and adults, and shows no signs of a strong prey drive around wildlife. Marley would be a wonderful match for a home that appreciates large breeds, values calm companionship, and doesn’t rely on crating. In return, he offers loyalty, gentleness, and a steady, loving presence. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

Breed overview
Great Pyrenees
A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
