Description
Dog Breed: Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie (medium coat). A COMPLETED APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE ANY CONVERSATION ABOUT ADOPTING FROM OUR ORGANIZATION. PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE AT .colliesheltierescue AND READ ABOUT THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS (GOOD PHONE INTERVIEW, SECURELY FENCED YARD, FABULOUS REFERENCE FROM YOUR VETERINARIAN AND A HOME VISIT.) I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT BUT WE SCREEN CAREFULLY FOR THE SAKE OF THE DOGS. THEY DESERVE IT! Lennox is the name this handsome little man was given in a shelter just a few days ago. I wish we knew what his name was originally but we have no way to find out. Lennox is a neutered male, one-year-old, honey sable Sheltie. He is absolutely drop dead gorgeous! (These photos do not due him justice.) Although he is a little shy, as are most Shelties, he is beginning to blossom after only 24 hours. And I am beginning to understand his preferences. He is taking treats from my hands and he prefers his kibble moistened with a bit of canned food and some hot water to make what I call "glop." He understands that his crate is his personal space and snuggles down into his new blanket to take a snooze. He sleeps through the night without a peep. And he wears his new inflatable collar, instead of an old time e-collar, to avoid licking his scrotum since his recent neuter surgery. Lennox would not mind being the only dog in the family. He in fine with the other Shelties in this bunch, other than at feeding time. He may have had to scramble to get enough to eat because it is possible that the many dogs on the property where he resided were free fed. Just a guess on my part. If other dogs are to be a part of his new family, we will make sure to introduce them ahead of time. All of the vaccines a one-year-old dog needs have already been given to Lennox. He is microchipped and has had a treatment of Frontline. Because of timing at the HSPPR (Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region) in Colorado Springs, Lennox did not have a heartworm test or baseline bloodwork. We will pay for that to be done with the Veterinarian of choice of our adoptive family. As I said, Shelties are shy by nature. We will therefore give preference to potential adopters with Sheltie experience. And all Sheltie placements include a copy of The Diary of Lucy Blue, a Puppy Mill Survivor's Story. Not my personal copy though. It has tears on too many pages.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
