Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Spruce is in NJ waiting for an adopter. Meet Spruce — our shy little sapling learning to trust again. When Spruce first arrived, the world felt big and overwhelming. He’s still unsure about hands and touch, and right now he finds the most comfort in the safety of his crate, where he can relax and observe the world from a place that feels secure. Spruce isn’t the kind of dog who will rush up for affection — he needs time, patience, and space to build trust at his own pace. But that doesn’t mean he won’t get there. Dogs like Spruce often form incredibly deep, meaningful bonds once they feel safe, and every small step he takes is progress. He’s a quiet, gentle soul who would thrive in a calm home with people who understand that love sometimes means simply sitting nearby and letting him come to you when he’s ready. He’d do best with: – A peaceful home (no young kids) – Patient, understanding humans who will respect his boundaries – A consistent routine and safe spaces (like his crate) – A yard or small potty area while he continues gaining confidence – Other calm, respectful pets could be a great influence Spruce may not be ready for cuddles just yet, but with time, patience, and kindness, he has the potential to blossom in his own beautiful way. If you believe in earning a dog’s trust and celebrating the little wins, Spruce could be the one who changes your heart forever. Spruce will be up to date on vaccines. His adoption donation is $450. - Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home. How to Adopt Me! Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
