Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Tervuren / Mixed (medium coat). Maxwell is a gorgeous and very sweet Belgian mix pup who was surrendered to the shelter because he had a bad UTI and the owners did not bother to have him checked at a vet, assumed he was a bad dog for peeing inside (when he needed antibiotics), and dumped him in the shelter to die. Max is currently being treated for his UTI and being brought back to a normal weight, as he was severely underweight as well. To say he is thrilled at being rescued is an UNDERSTATEMENT. He is thriving with loving care, good food, supplements, and urinary care. Max is showing he is a lover and has developed a strong attachment with the foster's son, so he does well with dog-savvy children. Belgians make excellent watch dogs, and bond hard with their families. The love going for walks and having quality time with their people. Max likes to cuddle and sleep close, he is pretty chill and seems happy to be warm, well fed and loved. His foster has three personal dogs and three rescue fosters and he is gentle with all of them. Max has not been tested with cats.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
