Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund. Rupert is an approximately 2 year old piebald Dachshund. Rupert is currently working on kennel training, potty training, and basic manners. He gets very attached to his person, so someone who is at home most of the time would be best. He does great with other dogs and with children, but he finds cats chase-worthy. Rupert is very vocal, so apartments are not a good fit. The suggested adoption fee for Rupert is $585. Bullies-N-Beyond ResQ Inc. is a 501(c)3, non-profit corporation that is 100% volunteer operated. Adoption donation fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. All dogs adopted through BNBR will have been administered their age appropriate vaccines which may include DHPP, Rabies, Lepto and Bordetella. All dogs will also be adopted out as already altered if of age, for those not of age, a voucher will be provided. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. BNBR does not adopt on a first serve basis. All available dogs are adopted based on their needs to provide the best fit home.

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
