DOTTIE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Dottie Best Guess for Breed: Pit bull terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years 10 months as of January 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 47 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogd! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Dottie is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweet girl landed in the shelter through no fault of her own. She's eager to once again have her own humans for sniffy walks and romps and all the adventures they can dream up. She's well out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog in her prime, she knows what's most important: Loving and being loved by her humans, knowing she's safe and where she belongs. Dottie is ready to bestow adoring gazes upon her adopters - and provide loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Is she the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Dottie is an incredibly sweet girl who just loves to cuddle up on the couch with you, give affectionate licks, and head out for long walks! She's the perfect energy level mix because she can either be a couch potato, or your weekend hiking buddy! She has been absolutely wonderful in a condo setting—she isn’t a barker and is perfectly content and has been well-behaved when left alone during trips to the store. She is fully crate-trained and has had zero-accidents this far (she'll even nudge you when she needs to go out!), and she absolutely loves spending time sitting out on the patio just peacefully watching the trees. Because she is so well-mannered and goes with the flow, Dottie would be the absolute perfect companion for someone looking for their very first dog, or for a family looking to add another incredibly sweet pup to their pack. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Dottie has completed this activity restriction period. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
