Description
Dog Breed: Bernese Mountain Dog. Adoption Fee: 620. Meet Muddy! This handsome 3-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog is the total package. Muddy is crate trained, house trained, and despite his 80-lb size, he’s convinced he’s a lap dog. However, due to his size we will not place him in a home with children under 8. Muddy loves car rides and is happiest when he’s with his people. He hasn’t been tested with cats yet, but he previously lived in a home with a chicken coop in the backyard that he completely ignored, which says a lot about his calm, easygoing nature. If you’re looking for a big, sweet, loyal companion who’s already got the basics down and just wants to be near you, Muddy might be your guy

Overview:
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a striking and gentle breed originating from the Swiss Alps, where they were traditionally used as farm dogs for herding, guarding, and pulling carts. Physically, they are large, sturdy dogs with a distinctive tricolor coat of black, rust, and white, known for their expressive dark eyes and powerful build. Temperamentally, Berners are renowned for their calm, affectionate, and loyal nature, making them excellent companions. They are generally good with children and other pets, fitting well into active family life, though their size makes them less ideal for small apartment living without ample outdoor access. While their sweet disposition is a major draw, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a relatively shorter lifespan and predispositions to conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain cancers. Despite this, their unwavering devotion and majestic presence bring immense joy to their families.
