Description
Dog Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier. Meet Francine Francine is a lover girl through and through and she’s ready to find her people. She came to us from Caitie’s foster family in Texas, one of our trusted partner rescues. Found as a stray during the holiday season, Francine landed in a local shelter before being pulled to safety. Since then, this squishy, squatty bully girl has been settling beautifully into foster life. Francine is happiest when she’s close to her human. Couch snuggles, hanging out next to the desk while foster mom works, or just being nearby… that’s her sweet spot. She enjoys short, leisurely walks and has excellent leash manners, casually ignoring ducks and squirrels along the way. She’s absolutely a foodie, and any snack can quickly override her bulldog-level determination. Francine lives with multiple adult dogs and has been friendly with them, though she makes it very clear that human snuggles rank above almost everything else. Except food. Food still wins. Francine is making solid progress with all the important house skills, including potty training, crate training, and learning household routines. She hasn’t met tiny tiny children or cats yet, but she continues to blossom as her past life fades further into the rearview. A few helpful notes from her foster: • She kennels much more comfortably if another dog is kenneled nearby, but she doesn't particularly have to be crated or with another pup in her future home • If she’s being stubborn, clipping on the leash is her “oh yes ma’am” switch and she immediately refocuses Francine is a gentle, affectionate soul who will thrive with a family that values companionship, structure, and lots of cozy time together. Apply to adopt Francine. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
