Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Acworth, NH Meet Bindi! Bindi is a beautiful blue girl who is looking for a family to give her lots of attention! She came into foster care listed as 2 years old, but we think she may be a little older (perhaps 5). It is hard to know for sure, but Miss Bindi says that doesn’t matter because she is full of zip, pep, and cannot stop smiling! Her favorite things are running around the yard (not in the deep snow, though… she is not a fierce explorer), barking at the kitties, and sitting on your feet so she can gaze up at you and get a lot of hugs! She is full of pizazz, but as far as cattle dogs go, she is a lower energy model. Bindi likes a nice squishy bed, playing with other dogs, and just following her people around. She is a little bit of a jumper (she just cannot resist the urge to hug a person!), and she is currently working on that, but her adopter will need to keep up with her training to remind her to keep all four on the floor. She also came into foster care with a little bit of skin irritation and hair loss on the tip of her tail and edges of her ears (she is currently finishing some prescriptions for it and it is clearing up nicely). Bindi is spayed, potty trained, and up to date on vaccines and preventatives. She does well on a leash but could use a little polishing to perfect her technique. Bindi is a little overweight at 45lb, but life here on the foster farm is already getting her into shape. Bindi is located in south central NH, and her adopters should expect to meet/pick her up there. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
