If the perfect dog exists, it just might be Georgie Porgie. One of the most lovable and well-behaved hounds you'll ever meet, Georgie is ready to bring warmth, joy, and gentle companionship into his forever home. He has the kind of even, steady temperament and beautiful, shiny eyes that make everyone feel instantly at ease...and at home. And at three years old, he's learned a thing or two: he's house-trained, leash-trained, and perfectly content in a crate. But his most special quality is his easygoing personality: Georgie adores men and women of all ages and has a particularly soft spot for children, greeting them with a wagging tail and quiet affection. He also gets along beautifully with other dogs ( and even cats). Having lived with all types of people and animals, he's never been anything but the perfect houseguest. Despite his gentle nature, Georgie still has a playful sparkle that makes every day brighter. He loves a good game of tug-o-war, a happy romp with furry friends, and then settling in on a welcoming nap for cuddles. One of his absolute favorite things in the world is going for car rides—he’ll hop in eagerly, ready for any adventure, big or small, road trip or errand, as long as he’s by your side. Georgie Porgie is the kind of dog who will fit right into your life and your heart, offering loyalty, kisses, and unconditional companionship. And the best part is he's waiting to meet you right now. Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. This dog’s treatment has been completed and the dog has tested negative for microfilaria; the has been cleared to resume normal activity and is ready to be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment; future complications are not expected, but are not impossible. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. Medical Note: This dog has tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia. This does not mean that this dog had/has an active infection of ehrlichiosis, only that the dog was exposed or infected in the past. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and is being treated/has been treated preventatively with a 28-day course of doxycycline. This dog is ready for adoption, though may continue to test positive for exposure to ehrlichia for some time. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
