Stormie is a 10-month-old female German Shepherd who found her way to Heidi’s Rescue after her original owner realized puppy life wasn’t the right fit. She arrived very underweight, but thanks to her love of treats (and her talent for learning tricks), she’s doing amazing and thriving in foster care. She’s a “pocket” GSD and will likely top out around 50 lbs—perfect if you love shepherds but don’t want a giant one. Stormy is extremely smart, a fast learner, and can pick up new tricks in minutes, especially if snacks or playtime are involved. Despite being a puppy, she’s refreshingly easy: Sleeps through the night Loves her crate (it’s her safe place!) Moderate energy—two walks a day + mental stimulation and she’s happy Can entertain herself when needed Stormie is affectionate, joyful, and truly lights up a room with her smile. Her favorite things are pets from her person and playing throw (she’s still working on the “bring it back” part ). Important info for the right match: Not a fan of other dogs in home Prefers being fed in her crate due to past food insecurity Not suitable for homes with cats or very small children (she loves to chase!) Would do well with older, respectful kids who enjoy snuggles Stormie would thrive with a family experienced with working breeds who can offer structure, consistency, and love—the things she’s been missing and absolutely deserves. She’s a happy little ray of sunshine ready to bond deeply with her person. Could Stormie be the one to light up your life? Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
