Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Dash is with our rescue partner in Louisiana and can come to NJ if we find a foster or adopter. Meet Dash, a 10-month-old, 25-pound hound mix who’s equal parts silly, sweet, and totally irresistible. This boy didn’t have the best start — he was found dumped in a yard and left to fend for himself — but you’d never guess it now. After some good food, care, and love, Dash has blossomed into a happy, goofy puppy who is living for every moment. Dash loves to play, chase toys, and hang out with his dog friends. He’s got a big personality in a small body — if he wants a toy or a turn on the couch, he’ll politely (okay, maybe not so politely) bark until he gets his way. Typical hound charm. He’s house-trained, uses the doggy door like a pro, rides great in the car, and loves any adventure that includes his people. Being a hound, he’s got a mild interest in digging — he just likes to “redecorate” the yard from time to time. Dash is sweet-natured, even-tempered, and ready for a forever home that will give him love, playtime, and a few sturdy toys to call his own. He gets along well with other dogs and would love a canine buddy, though we’re not sure about cats just yet. If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate sidekick who’s as goofy as he is brave, Dash is your guy! Dash is up to date on vaccines and is fixed. His adoption fee is $550. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
