For more details, visit: Foster to Forever Program RANGER Ranger is a striking, energetic young pup with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life. He’s curious, affectionate, and thrives on attention; he wants to be where the action is and involved in everything you’re doing. Ranger loves to cuddle, but when he gets warm, he’s happiest lounging near a cool door or spending time outside. Ranger will do best with an experienced, active adopter who understands intelligent, high-energy breeds (think husky/German shepherd–type traits). He’ll need plenty of physical exercise, mental enrichment, and consistent training to help him channel his enthusiasm in positive ways. A secure yard and leash use will be important, as Ranger loves to explore and follow his nose. He has lived successfully with another dog and a cat, though cats are more interesting to him than cuddle-worthy and he’s been exposed to children, doing well with calm interactions. Because he needs time, structure, and focused attention, a home without young children would likely be the best fit. Ranger is sweet, affectionate, and full of potential for the right person who enjoys an active lifestyle and wants a loyal adventure buddy to grow with. (We estimated his date of birth is around November 7, 2025. He came to us from the Wind River Reservation. His exact breed mix and adult size are unknown)

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
