Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Approx. DOB: 1/15/24 Approx Weight: 12.52 Lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness!! Meet Mowie! Mowie is an adorable 2½-year-old Chihuahua mix (possibly with a little Dachshund) weighing just 12½ pounds. He may be small, but he's full of personality and is looking for a family that will appreciate both his playful side and his love of cuddling. Mowie forms strong bonds with his people and loves to be close—so close, in fact, that he'll happily follow you from room to room. Because he likes to stay right by your feet, his new family will need to be mindful of where he is while walking around the house. This is part of his affectionate personality, but it could be a tripping hazard for anyone who has difficulty with balance or mobility. Mowie enjoys going for walks and has great leash manners. He also loves exploring the yard, chasing squirrels and rabbits, and playing with his foster dog siblings. Because of his curious nature, he will need a securely fenced yard where he can safely run and explore. When playtime is over, you'll often find him burrowed under a cozy blanket for a nap! Another favorite pastime is to be curled up in your lap, and when he gently leans his head against you, it's impossible not to fall in love. Mowie is crate trained and is doing very well with his house training. He currently sleeps in an indoor dog playpen at night but would happily trade that for a spot snuggled up in bed with his forever family. He wears a belly band indoors as he continues learning to let his people know when he needs to go outside, and he keeps it mostly dry. He knows "stay," is working on "sit," and comes when called by his name. Like many small dogs, Mowie can be a little sensitive and may become startled if approached unexpectedly. Because of this, he would do best with older, respectful children who understand how to give him time to adjust and respect his space. Once he feels safe and comfortable, he is an incredibly loving and devoted companion. Mowie also enjoys chew toys and Nylabones and can be a bit of a picky eater, sometimes choosing not to finish all of his meals. If you're looking for a loyal little shadow who will accompany you on walks, make you smile with his blanket-burrowing antics, and happily curl up in your lap at the end of the day, Mowie may be the perfect addition to your family! I have been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped. Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
