Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Athena - A Gentle Soul Ready for Her Second Chance Hi there, I'm Athena. I'm a 2-year-old Pit mix weighing about 53 pounds, and I'm hoping my forever family is out there waiting to meet me. I was found near Lakeshore in Rockwall and, sadly, no one came looking for me. Now I'm getting the chance to start fresh with a family who will give me the love and stability every dog deserves. I can be a little shy at first in new situations, but with patience and kindness, my sweet personality shines through. Once I feel safe, I'm a gentle, loving girl who truly enjoys being close to my people. I'm looking for a family who understands that building trust takes time and who will help me grow more confident as I adjust to home life. I walk nicely on a leash and, even though I don't appear to have had much formal training before, I'm eager to learn and ready to blossom with guidance and consistency. If you already have a dog at home, a meet and greet is encouraged to make sure we're a good match before heading home together. My adoption fee is $125. I am spayed, microchipped, current on my rabies vaccination, and boosters to date. I did test heartworm positive but thanks to Rockwall PAWS my course of treatment is covered at little to no cost to the adopter. If you have questions about my treatment or feel free to ask staff. I may start out a little quiet, but with love and patience, I promise my heart is a big one - and I can't wait to share it with my forever family. All animals, unless otherwise noted in their description, are at 1825 Airport Rd. in Rockwall, TX. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 5 pm. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
