Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Ebony is a sweet senior girl who is so deserving of a couch to call her own. She is with our partner rescue in Louisiana but hoping to come to NJ with a foster or adopter. Meet Ebony. Seven years old. Smart, gentle, and full of personality. She’s been in and out of the shelter since last November, and her heart just wants what every senior dog deserves—a cozy couch and a person to love. Ebony adores people. She’s housebroken, rides great in the car, uses a doggy door, and knows all her manners. She’s goofy, affectionate, and loves sunbathing, walks, playing in the grass and squeaky toys. She needs to be your only pet—but that just means she’ll give all her love to you. Please don’t let her spend her golden years waiting behind bars. Adopt or share to help Ebony find the peace and love she’s been dreaming of. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
