Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Hi, I'm Pepper! Whatcha doin'? Oh, fun! Can I come? Whatcha doin' now? How about NOW? Can I do that with you, too?! Pepper may be over 5 years old, but I guess nobody gave her the memo, because she has the "pep" in her step of a young spring chicken! You can expect all the playful sass and spice that comes with a name like Pepper - this girl wants to be in on the action and she's always up for fun. Whether it's a long jaunt through the neighborhood, a run in the yard, or just trotting along wherever YOU are so she doesn't miss any of the action. When it's time to settle (which, for Pepper, is EVENTUALLY) she can power-down and enjoy some couch time. But have no fear, when it's time to set off on the next adventure, to the dog park or just to the kitchen, she'll be ready! If there are any scratches and pats being given out, Pepper is SO here for it. And treats? You're speaking her love language! If you add a few toys and a solid surface to scratch her back against, well THAT is just paradise. Pepper says: "You might THINK you want a baby dog, but why deal with all that mess and chaos when you could have ME instead? I'm potty trained like a champ - no accidents in the house. I chew what you tell me I can chew - toys, bones, and Kongs? Love 'em! But shoes or pillows? I would never - I'm a grown lady! If you bring me home, you get all the fun and cuteness, but none of the puppy shenanigans. Puppy? Nah - I think you mean PEPPER!" Pepper is dog friendly - with a proper intriduction she is polite and well-mannered. When it's time to play, she can hang, and if it gets too rowdy or rough for her ladylike tastes, she will very easily and happily find herself a spot to observe the action. While she vibes with the company of other dog friends, Pepper doesn't NEED to have another dog in the house, she would be just as happy being the only seasoning in your spice rack. Pepper is gentle and wonderful with humans, too. She's maybe not a match for small kiddos, because her spicy enthusiasm for life might bowl them over. But for older kids, families, single folks, or couples - she's just the right level of spice. She will trot right over, sit at your feet, and look into your soul with her bright little eyes - and if you hadn't been in love with her before that, well - be prepared to fall then! She does great in the crate, too - goes in like a charm, settles easily, sleeps through the night, and wakes bright eyed and waggy-tailed. Basically, Pepper is the total package: perfect size, perfect age, perfect energy level, perfect manners, and a temperament that's not a bit salty - just Pepper. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
