He came to us as an owner surrender when his previous family could no longer care for him — but the moment Dax walked through our doors, his whole face lit up. He was instantly thrilled to meet new people, wagging and wiggling like he’d known us forever. Still very much a baby, Dax is working on his house training and basic commands, and he’s eager to learn with anyone willing to guide him. His joyful spirit and affectionate nature make him a wonderful match for a home with kids, other dogs, or even a single person who’s ready to love him with their whole heart. If you’re looking for a bright, bouncy, people‑loving pup who brings sunshine everywhere he goes, Dax is ready to meet you. Dax's adoption fee is $175, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
