Description
Dog Breed: Maltese / Shih Tzu / Mixed (long coat). Meet Leonardo: The Artist with a Colorful Past! Straight from a high kill shelter and right into our hearts, Leo is a 14 pound, roughly 3 year old mutt masterpiece. Once spray painted in bright blues and pinks and abandoned as a matted little mess on the streets of Texas, this resilient boy has washed away his past and is ready to paint a brand new future. Leo considers himself a true expressionist. His mediums? Love, loyalty, and the occasional perfectly executed sit for treats. Housebroken, leash trained, and wonderfully well mannered, this talented gentleman has fully mastered the fine art of being a very good boy. He doesn’t love being in the crate yet, but he eventually settles in when needed. Leo gets along great with other dogs and would likely do well with kids, though there aren’t any in his foster home. Despite everything he’s been through, he remains playful, sweet, charming, and affectionate. This cutie is ready to trade in street art chaos for couch cuddle serenity! Leo is neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped, freshly groomed, and ready to meet you! His adoption donation fee is $400. Please apply directly on our website in the dropdown menu at havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

More About Mal-Shi BreedOverview:
The Mal-Shi, a charming designer breed, is a delightful cross between the gentle Maltese and the affectionate Shih Tzu. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both parent breeds, the Mal-Shi is typically a small, sturdy companion dog, rarely exceeding 15 pounds. Their physical characteristics often include a soft, wavy to curly, hypoallergenic-friendly coat that sheds minimally, requiring regular grooming to prevent matting. Common coat colors range from white, cream, and black to various shades of brown and brindle. Temperament-wise, Mal-Shis are renowned for being incredibly sweet, playful, and intelligent, making them highly trainable and eager to please. They thrive on human companionship and are generally excellent with children and other pets, making them a fantastic choice for families and individuals alike. Their adaptability, coupled with their moderate exercise needs, makes them well-suited for apartment living. While generally healthy, potential health considerations include respiratory issues common to brachycephalic breeds (if the Shih Tzu parent has a very flat face), patellar luxation, and eye conditions. Regular veterinary check-ups are crucial for maintaining their well-being.
