Someone close to the rescuer owned Boop and did not treat her well at all. The owner would yell and throw things at her when she would bark. Dogs are gonna bark!! She was mostly kept outside, and we are so glad the Good Samaritan stepped in and asked if she could take little Boop and find her a good home. With all this being said, this little girl has to learn to trust and will need someone with a lot of patience and love to show her that she is safe and loved. That is where you come in. Do you have the time to show her what love is like? Boop has opened up to us here in foster care. It took her about 5 days to learn that we meant her no harm, and we were here to love her, feed her, and keep her warm. Are you up to this challenge or have the experience with a fearful dog and want to add to your pack? Our must haves for this girl are: A fenced in yard is a must Another young, small, well-socialized dog for her to learn from Someone that can be home more than not No apartments, high rises, or condos Once Boop settles in and knows you, she will be the sweetest little girl because she will know that she has the best home. This little one does not recognize personal space once she gets comfortable in her surroundings. So, be ready for a loyal, life-long companion! ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
