Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed. Abbott is a young Malinois mix, around 1 year old and about 40 lbs, with a gentle soul and so much potential. He's spent much of his life in a shelter environment with his brother, so the world outside is still a bit new to himbut he's taking it all in stride. Abbott can be a little reserved when meeting new people and situations, but underneath that initial shyness is a very sweet, thoughtful boy. Once he starts to feel safe, his soft and affectionate side really begins to show. He can be a bit picky about his dog friends, but with slow, proper introductions he's able to make new ones successfully. Abbott would thrive in a patient, understanding home that can give him the time he needs to build confidence. With consistency and kindness, he's sure to blossom into a loyal and loving companion. If you're looking for a soft-hearted pup who just needs a chance to shine, Abbott might be your perfect match. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
