Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Gladys — a heart full of love just waiting for somewhere to land. If Gladys could design the perfect walk, it would involve being attached to you in one very big hug. She’s still learning leash manners and can get a little jumpy with excitement, but she responds well to gentle correction. Truthfully, she’s just so happy to be with her person that she forgets her feet for a moment. Once in the yard, her sweetness truly shines. Gladys relaxes into soft pets and leans in like she’s been waiting her whole life for that exact touch. Toys? Not really her thing. She’d much rather collect affection than tennis balls. She’s not reactive to other dogs and currently shares space with a canine companion who has no complaints. She’s silly, smart, and—have we mentioned?—so incredibly loving. Gladys doesn’t want much. Just you. A warm voice. A gentle hand. A place to belong. Gladys has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in her new home. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out her playgroup video here: To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet and greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. We are located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. I look forward to getting to know you!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
