Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Foster or Forever Home Wanted: Meet Raphael! Raphael is a one-year-old purebred yellow Lab weighing about 70 lbs of handsome, happy-go-lucky energy. He came to us as an owner surrender (along with his brother, Michelangelo) after his family faced health challenges and reached out for help. Now this big puppy is ready to start his next chapter. True to his age and breed, Raphael is people friendly, dog friendly, and full of that classic Lab enthusiasm. He’s playful, affectionate, and eager to learn. With an active family who will provide structure, consistency, and continued training, he’s going to grow into an incredible companion. Raphael is still new to our rescue, so we’ll be sharing more as we get to know him—but so far, he’s checking all the boxes for a fun-loving, social young Lab. Interested in fostering or adopting Raphael? Please fill out an application at .labradorsandfriends. Raphael is located in Southern California.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
