Description
Dog Breed: Maltese / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). MEET MAXIE! My friends describe me as: Shy, playful, fearful. Maxie is playful and affectionate once she gets to know you. She has puppy energy and will need a puppy proofed home to keep your not-for-chewing items safe! Although Maxie is snuggly with people she knows and trusts, she will not appreciate strangers or kids trying to interact with her unless she is soliciting it. Maxie likes dogs and lived with a Great Dane in her previous home. Maxie does not like to share her favorite things, like her food and people, so keep this in mind if you have other pets in the home. Maxie loves going for walks and is almost housebroken. She is accustomed to going to the groomer, but may prefer a woman groomer over a man. Maxie is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed/neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team. For more information on Maxie or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. However, we will be unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Malchi is an adorable designer breed, a delightful cross between the Chihuahua and the Maltese. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both parent breeds, the Malchi typically inherits a small, compact size, generally weighing between 5-12 pounds. Their coats can vary, ranging from the long, silky hair of the Maltese to the shorter, smoother coat of the Chihuahua, often coming in shades of white, cream, black, or tan. Temperament-wise, Malchis are known for being affectionate, lively, and intelligent, making them wonderful companion dogs. They adapt well to apartment living due to their small stature and moderate exercise needs, and with proper socialization, can be suitable for families with older children. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of common small-breed health issues like dental problems, patellar luxation, and hypoglycemia, necessitating regular vet check-ups. Overall, the Malchi is a charming, devoted little dog perfect for those seeking a loving lap companion.
