Description

Dog Breed: Dogo Argentino (short coat). Don't forget!! We are currently open by appointment only. This is to control the traffic in the building at one time. If you would like to look at the cats/dogs for adoption, or if you need to relinquish or to do any other business, please message our FB page or call us at 304-267-8389 to schedule an appointment. If you see a specific pet for adoption on our FB page we can always set up a specific meet and greet for that as well. Daisy Ann needs your help! She was surrendered to the shelter through no fault of her own. She is an 8 year old, spayed, Dogo Argentino. She is good with other dogs and good with cats. Leash and crate trained Daisy Ann is deaf in one ear She is NOT doing well here at the shelter. This poor girl is so scared. Our kennels are full and very loud. Daisy Ann is petrified. Took her out for a walk this morning and you could see the fear in her eyes. We are hoping to find a rescue or, better yet, someone who is familiar with her breed for her. She needs some quiet time to decompress from her stressful stay here at the shelter. Please share to help Daisy Ann. Our hearts are breaking for this sweet girl. Adoption fee... $175, cash or credit card, includes spay/neuter, first shots and microchip.. If you already have a dog, bring them in with you for a 'meet and greet'. Mon.-Sat. 10-4 We understand not everyone can adopt a pet. Some homes are full, some homes do not allow certain pets and some have lifestyles that can't handle a pet right now. You can still help. Sharing pictures on FB, volunteering, or just coming in and sponsoring part of the adoption fee for when the pet is adopted. This helps a lot. No amount is too small to donate towards the adoption fee. If you would like to help sponsor, speak to one of the staff. Especially the cats and kittens need help (since we usually have so many!) Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank You!

Overview:

The Argentinian Mastiff, more commonly known as the Dogo Argentino, is a powerful and noble breed originating from Argentina in the 1920s, specifically developed for big-game hunting. These impressive dogs boast a striking appearance with their signature pure white coat, muscular build, and a strong, intelligent gaze. Temperament-wise, a well-socialized Dogo is often described as loyal, courageous, and protective of their family. While they can be affectionate and gentle with their loved ones, their protective instincts and high energy levels mean they are generally not suitable for apartment living and thrive in homes with ample space and an active lifestyle. They require consistent training and early socialization to ensure they are well-behaved around strangers and other animals. Regarding health, they are prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and skin allergies, and due to their white coat, they have a higher incidence of deafness.
