Dog Breed: Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $75 for Blended breeds and $100 for Ritzy. Big Papi’s story is one we see far too often. He was left behind due to a medical condition his owner either couldn’t afford or chose not to address. He was discovered at a veterinarian’s office after receiving a call (from the possible owner) saying he’d been left at their back door. Despite efforts, Big Papi’s owner was never located. Despite that rough goodbye, this sweet 7‑year‑old boy has shown nothing but gentleness. He did have a small tumor, but it was removed with no lasting issues. What remains is a tenderhearted little guy who’s understandably a bit shy at first. Once he realizes you’re safe, he allows handling with no hesitation—he just needs a moment to trust. Big Papi gets along well with other dogs and has even started venturing out on walks. He’s ready for a home where he can take his time, settle in, and finally feel like he belongs.
