He’s young, intelligent, and very workable—but he truly needs a savvy, experienced owner who understands fear-based behaviors. Sargeant came to us after biting children in his previous home, and for everyone’s safety, he will need a strict no-kids household. He has bitten several people here as well when approached or handled too quickly. These incidents are rooted in fear, not aggression—when he feels unsafe or overwhelmed, he reacts. $400 adoption fee. Because of this, Sargeant will need to go home in a crate and transition slowly, with patience, structure, and respect for his boundaries. With the right person—someone calm, confident, and committed to earning his trust—Sargeant has the potential to continue improving and live a safe, stable life. He is not an easy dog, but he is worth it—for the right home. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy.
