Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $300.00. NEW RESCUE! Hi. I’m Flossy. Yes, like dental floss! Because you likely need me more than you realize! I’m a 4 month old, 12 lb female which means I am baby-sized but powered by approximately 4 cups of espresso. On the official Energy Scale of 1–10, I’m a confident 7… but only because I save the 8s and 9s for adventure days. They say I’m a heeler mix. Possibly some Aussie in there too? All I know is I am VERY soft. Like “accidentally pet me for 30 minutes” soft. You’ve been warned! I’m what the professionals call a companion dog, which is a fancy way of saying: If you move, I move. Bathroom trip? I’ll supervise. Laundry? I’ll offer moral support. Couch time? I accept cuddles as payment. I love humans. Adore them. Worship them, honestly! Other dogs? Totally cool with them! But if I had to choose between playing with a dog or sitting directly on your foot while you work… I know where my loyalty lies <3. I’m a working girl at heart, though. Hikes? YES. Daily exercise? YES. Adventure buddy life? Double YES. I’m not really into the “Netflix and never leave the couch” lifestyle. I prefer “Netflix after we conquered the world together.” Potty training update: I’m about 80% there. I’ve had a few creative floor choices, but I’m learning fast! I’m very praise-motivated! Tell me I’m a good girl and I will absolutely glow. I sleep in a kennel… technically. Do I like it? No. I prefer to be near my people at all times. In fact, I recently discovered that baby gates are more of a suggestion than a rule. I just hop over them because, again, I belong with you, always. I love toys. I love zoomies. I love being told I’m brilliant. I love cuddles. I love being included. I am smart, loyal, affectionate, and ready to attach myself to your heart (and possibly your ankle). A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
