Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Meet Candy Apple – Our Sweet Little Fighter Just look at that face. Candy Apple is as sweet as her name and has already captured so many hearts. This beautiful girl is super, super sweet, loves to play, and is wonderful with dogs, cats, and kids. She truly just wants to be everyone’s best friend. Candy Apple came to us as an owner surrender to a local animal shelter. While there, it was discovered that her left front leg was broken, and she urgently needed a rescue to step in for veterinary care. PAR was honored to say yes. The good news? Her leg is healing nicely according to the vet! Due to the severity of the break, it isn’t surgically correctable, but the vet believes she will be able to keep her leg. She’ll need to wear her splint for 12 more days, at which time she’ll be reevaluated and possibly have it removed. And yes — her cast is AI generated and just makes her even more adorable! Through it all, Candy Apple has remained loving, happy, and full of life. She’s currently working on her house manners and doing great! We are acceptting applications now, but she will not be ready to go to her forever home until after her upcoming vet visit and recheck. Please also make sure your pets are up to date on you species applicable Vaccines (rabies, Distemper/Parvo, FVRCP, Bordetella), spayed/neutered, and on Heartworm prevention if a canine. The adoption fee includes their age appropriate vaccinations(DA2PP and Bordetella), Dewormer, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm test as well as the registration of their microchip information to you. The first step to adopting is to fill out an application for adoption. Once approved we will arrange a time for you to meet the animal you are interested in. If it is a match the adoption can then be completed and you can take home your new furry family member. If it is not a match we will file your approved application and you can wait till you find the perfect match.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
