Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Meet Eddie, the 6 year old black lab! Although Eddie has a frosted face⦠donât let that fool you - this guy still has plenty of energy. Eddie is your typical lab in the fact that he loves to play fetch and is eager to interact with people. He came to the Shelter with his friend Apollo (A328563) who is also up for adoption. Eddie and Apollo could go to an adoptive home together for someone looking for a duo but is not required to be adopted with Apollo. Eddie previously spent the majority of his time outdoors. He may do well in a home environment where he has easy access outside to a securely fenced in yard via a doggy door or a similar set up and can come in at night. As long as you have some tennis balls and a good throwing arm, Eddie will be a happy camper. The property Eddie lived at previously had outdoor cats who Eddie coexisted with. Eddie does not seem to appreciate the company of other dogs a whole lot (outside the ones he knows). A home as the only pup (or with Apollo) is recommended at this time. Adopters should be mindful to keep Eddie out of high traffic dog areas to set him up for success. If you are looking for a lab to be your BFF â come meet Eddie today! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
